Chef Datuk Redzuawan Ismail, more
popularly known as Chef Wan, reportedly made the statement after the
Philippines ranked second in a CNN poll on the world’s best
culinary destinations.
Saying that the Philippines
should have been at the bottom of the list, Chef Wan said in an interview on the website of the
Malaysian 24-hour news channel Astro Awani: “Philippines
is known to have the worst food in Asia , ask
any chefs and they will tell you I am right.”
He further criticized the results of the
poll, saying that Malaysia –
which landed in sixth place – should have ranked higher in the list dominated
by Taiwan .
“My top five choices in terms of variety
should be: number one Malaysia ,
followed by Italy , Thailand , Japan
and India ,”
Chef Wan said.
“I see food as varieties and flavors that
reflect the culture and food, and that is why Malaysia should be the first
world’s best food destination,” he added.
