Arrest Dr M now for inciting hatred against PM, Ali Tinju tells cops

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 — A leader from the #Merah169 movement demanded today the police detain and investigate Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad for his seditious action in openly calling on voters to unseat Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Pointing out that the police have been quick to act on “regular people” accused of sedition, Mohd Ali Baharom, who also heads the Association of Armed Forces Veterans, said the same treatment should be accorded to Dr Mahathir whom he said has consistently inciting hatred against the Najib administration.
“I want him to be questioned. When regular people make comments deemed seditious they are quickly apprehended.
“But Dr Mahathir has been consistently inciting hatred and had even openly said he was committing sedition as he is calling for the people to unseat Datuk Seri Najib Razak,” Mohd Ali, or popularly known as Ali Tinju, told reporters here.
The former soldier also demanded the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to probe Dr Mahathir and his two sons, Mirzan and Mokhzani, for corruption.
He said there have been repeated calls in the past for the authorities to act on allegations that Dr Mahathir had abused his power during his 22 year tenure as prime minister to enrich two of his sons.
“There are allegations spread on social media and so on that his son owns more than 100 companies. That is a lot. Dr Mahathir must explain how did his two sons acquire money to start businesses worth billions?
Can Dr Mahathir give his assurance that his sons could have stood on their own feet and not without his help?” Mohd Ali said, and named the sons as Mirzan and Mokhzani.
Mirzan, 57, sits on the board of several public-listed companies while his younger brother Mokhzani was recently listed by Forbes as the 26th richest man in Malaysia with a net worth of US$700 million or RM3 billion.
The former soldier insisted that Dr Mahathir has no right to question Najib over the RM2.6 billion of donation the prime minister is said to have received from a Middle Eastern donor as the 90-year former leader has allegedly not come clean on his sons’ wealth.
He accused Dr Mahathir of being vindictive and disrespectful of the current leadership, which is unbecoming of a former prime minister.
“I challenge him to contest in Pekan. If he is a man, then go and contest in Pekan,” Mohd Ali said, referring to Dr Mahathir’s speech recently where he called on Najib’s constituents to vote him out in the next general election.
Dr Mahathir had said that one of the ways to remove Najib while keeping Umno and Barisan Nasional in power is by allowing an opposition win in the prime minister’s parliamentary seat in Pahang.
Mohd Ali said Dr Mahathir should respect Najib’s leadership and if that the two had any grouses, it should be solved amicably behind closed doors.
The group said it will lodge a police report should Dr Mahathir fail to explain his sons’ wealth. However, no deadline was given.
