Although Israel claims Jerusalem as its undivided capital, the realities for those who live there cannot be more different.
More than 70 percent of the Palestinians in Jerusalem live below the poverty line, while the average poverty rate in Israel is 21.7 percent. A matrix of discriminatory Israeli government policies has effectively obstructed the natural growth of the Palestinian population in East Jerusalem.
While Palestinians live under apartheid-like conditions, Jewish Israelis enjoy a sense of normality, guaranteed for them by their state.
